Every day, dozens of people visit Tiger Kingdom in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai excited to see and pet some of the world’s most ferocious beasts. Stepping into the cage with a full grown tiger is an experience that I’ll never forget, and was one of the highlights of my six-months of travel.
However, what I didn’t know was that Tiger Kingdom also has, or at least had, a large male lion. Kept in a cage next to some of the lion enclosures, I still wonder to this day what he was doing there. Did an intern get a bit confused when picking up baby tigers from the zoo?
Nevertheless, the lion was there, on display for everyone to see, but not to pet.
As I approached the lion’s cage, he turned his head and looked at me. The look he gave me was priceless. I don’t even think my wife has ever given me such an annoyed look.
While this may not be the best photo I’ve ever taken, the look on the lion’s face makes me smile every time I look at this picture.
